hello,

I'm using a vserver from strato with Debian 3.1.
uname -r returns 2.6.9-023stab039.1-smp. I want to use firehol, but when starting this program it breaks with a modprobe failure 'Could not load /lib/modules/.../modules.dep'. The problem is, that there's no file or dir under /lib/modules. I'm an amateur in working with kernels, so I tried to get kernel 2.6.9-023stab040.1, after install it with 'dkgp -i ...' modprobe breaks with failure 'Error inserting ... Operation not permitted'. I can't find anything in the logs.
Can someone help me?

Nico

Did you perform `modpprobe` in VE?

Thanks,
Vasily.

What it modpprobe? Never heared before. Meanwhile I've installed SuSE 9.3 on the vserver. Before I install Debian again, please tell me what modpprobe does or what's the difference to modprobe.

I meant `modprobe`, just a missprint! Smile The question is: are you trying to load a kernel module from VE?

Thank you,
Vasily

It seems that firehol wants to load the modules ip_conntrack_irc and ip_conntrack_ftp. Is it not possible to load modules (here ipv4-modules) in a VE?
For me SuSE is easier to configure than Debian, but I need /dev/loop, which is included in Debian but not in SuSE - thanks Strato!

No, it isn't. You should load modules on HN.

Usually, such programs try to load the module only if it isn't loaded. So, if you've loaded a module in VE0, such program will not try to load the module => no error.
If the program tries to load the module in any case, then, you should fix a script a bit. BTW, it is a bug of this program and you should send a bug report to its developer

Vasily.

Hello,

BTW, I've just looked at fireHOL, and there is the following info:

# If set to 0, FireHOL will not try to load the required kernel modules.
# It can be set in the configuration file.
FIREHOL_LOAD_KERNEL_MODULES=1

HTH,
Vasily.
