I installed sidux (because the etch didn't recognize the SATA HDD) and then upgraded to the etch after changing the sources.list. Then I installed the openvz. But now when I try to boot to the ovz kernel then it halts at this stage (very beginning):

Loading, please wait.
ACPI: Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x2
ACPI: Getting cpuindex for acpiid 0x3
no block devices found

Thereafter I tried to boot with the kernel parameters noapic nolapic acpi=off and it gave the problems pointing to the fan and thermel.mo and halts with the same last line i.e. no block devices found.

Could anyone help me where did I do wrong? I followed the tutorial for etch and installed precompiled kernel for the official repository.

--

Updates:

I have tried with noapic nolapic acpi=off apm=off, but still it halts at the same point as above.

Can you, please, boot sidux and perform `lspci` and `lspci -n` commands there. Then post the output of these commands here. Also, I'd like to know precise OpenVZ kernel version you're using.

Thank you,
Vasily.

I see, that the support of your device (some VIA SATA Controller) appeared only in 2.6.20 vanilla kernel. So 2.6.18 OpenVZ kernel doesn't support it. Note that your device is not supported even by RHEL5, that was released a day ago...
Soon we're a going to release 2.6.20 based OpenVZ kernel. It should solve your problem.
One more way: you can compile driver for your kernel manually.

Vasily

Thanks for the info. Could you give me some pointers how to go about it? Any relevant links will be appreciated.
