I installed the latest dev kernel on a 3 Ghz pertium system with a raid 1 root partition. The install modified the menu.lst file so all I did was change to boot from 0 instead of the default which was changed by the install of openvz to 1.

The system does not get to the grub boot menu. After displaying the normal bios info, it just stops.

Is there a problem with using raid 1 root/boot partitions? I'm very confused as to why grub didn't even get loaded. I'm reloading CentOS 4.4 now.

Yes, before you ask, it did boot fine before the install of http://download.openvz.org/kernel/devel/current/kernel-2.6.1 8-ovz028test018.1.i686.rpm

Thanks,
Jim.

OK so we reinstalled CentOS from scratch and now it boots. I have no idea what happened.

We now get keymap errors when logging in as normal users on the console. From Google I see that this might be a kernel issue. Does anyone know what might be causing a "keymap 0 permission denied" error (and maps 2,3 4, etc.).

Thanks,
Jim.

Does this error appear only with OpenVZ kernle? Doesn't it appear when you boot CentOS default kernel?

Thanks,
Vasily.

That is correct. I need to add that this is a non standard CentOS install built with the Blue Quartz extensions. I'm not sure what all they might have cause this anomaly.

Sorry you wrote (paraphrased) it only fails with OpenVZ kernel, not CentOS deauflt kernel. And that is a correct, true statement.

Do you have SELinux enabled? If yes, try to turn it off.

Have you installed OpenVZ kernel from rpm or compiled it yourself? If the latter, then, please, attach your .config file.

Thanks,
Vasily

I had thought I had turned SELINUX off, but I didn't.
We've rebooted but I don't know if that fixed it yet.

The kernel is the latest dev kernel.

Sorry it's taking so long. I have to rely on a client to tell me the answers and since the system is working except for that little problem, he's moving on.
