Plesk 8.1.0 Installation Failure [message #10751]

I am currently using Plesk 7.5.4 and I have just set up a new virtual server and tried to install Plesk 8.1.0 as I am looking to migrate to the most recent version.

The virtual server is a cleanly installed copy of CentOS 4.3 (default not minimal). Prior to starting the VPS I issued the following commands on the physical server:

vzctl set 19 --quotaugidlimit 150 --save

I then start the VPS, entered it and downloaded the plesk auto installer (psa_installer_v3.1.0_build061201.02_os_CentOS_4.3_i386), ran it and when it gets to starting the qmail daemon -- it fails without any specific error. I have tried this multiple times on multiple VPS's.

The other thing I find strange is that if I simply try "service mysqld start" to start the mysql-server daemon, that fails as well. Starting and stopping httpd and sshd work fine though.

The network seems to be working well, and the user_beancounters seems fine with no fails.

I have searched all over the web looking for a solution to this and have been unable to find one. Any help that you would be able to offer with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

file after un-success try of installation? Attach it, please.

As I understand from the console output you attached, Plesk installer expiriences some problems when starting/stopping some services:

The most easiest service from above is sendmail, so, please inform us, can you smoothly start/stop sendmail service?

Hi Vasily,

Thanks for the response, when I view the log file: /tmp/psa-qmail_1.03_centos4.2.build81061129.22_installing.lo g

It simply displays the same thing that was showing up on the screen during the installation, therefore it is of no help.

When I try to start sendmail I get errors about various files in /etc/mail (see below) it looks like permission errors and if I try to change the permissions it makes no difference. I have also tried starting and stopping other services as well to help give you a better idea of what I am experiencing.

I have included a log below to show you more of the problems I am experiencing, I think that there is something wrong at a higher level than simply inside the VE.

From the log below would it be safe to assume that my template is possible corrupted? Or does this seem like a problem with the physical server configuration somehow?

Hmmm....

Can you confirm (just for confidence), that all failcounters after un-success try of Plesk installation are empty?
Can you, please, post output of these commands executed on HN:

# vzquota stat <veid>
# vzquota show <veid>

where <veid> is ID of problematic VE.

I just ran yum install vztmpl-fedora-core-5.i386, create a new VE, tested a "vzyum VEID install mysql-server" entered the VE and started mysql without any problems.

I am now attempting to install plesk again since this seems a bit more promising.

At this point I am certain that my CentOS template is corrupted, what would be the safest way to remove and reinstall it?

yum remove vztmpl-centos-4.i386 ?
yum install vztmpl-centos-4.i386 ?

Is there a way to update the templates of already created VEs once I have installed an uncorrupted template?

I have tried doing:

yum remove vztmpl-centos-4.i386
yum install vztmpl-centos-4.i386

I have set up a new VE, tested it out by install mysql and trying to start it and I am still having the same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I don't want to be stuck having to use Fedora VE's since for everything.
