I have successfully installed from source an openvz kernel on Ubuntu, and am now trying to get a VM running from a template. I was successful at copying a running VM from FC6 into /vz/private so I know I'm almost there, however...

When I install vztmpl-centos-4-2.0-2.i386.rpm and then attempt to create a vm, with:
vzctl create 300 --ostemplate centos-4

I get
Cached os template /vz/template/cache/centos-4.tar.gz not found

Sure enough, /vz/template/cache is empty. And if I look at the rpm I don't see it putting anything in the cache.

The rpm puts files in /vz/template/centos/4/i386/config and /vz/template/centos/4/i386/vz-addons.

I also tried vzctl create 300 centos, without any success.

How do I create a vm from the info in /vz/tmeplate/centos?

THanks,
Jim.

Thanks, however the vzpkgcache program apparently hasn't been ported to debian/ubuntu yet. I'm not surprised because I suspect that it makes liberal use of the rpm utilities that don't exist on Debian/Ubuntu. I also looked for precompiled templates and didn't find any.

Thanks,
Jim

Hello,

I guess, you can download precreated template of Centos-4 from http://openvz.org/download/template/cache/ and then update it (via yum for example) from inside VE.

Vasily

Ah, I had searched for "precompiled" templates and only got one hit. Thanks for that link. That solves more than one problem.

Jim.
