vzctl start 101
Starting VPS ...
VPS is mounted
Adding IP address(es): 66.98.186.237
RTNETLINK answers: File exists
vps-net_add ERROR: Unable to add route /sbin/ip route add 66.98.186.237 dev venet0 src 66.98.186.136
VPS start failed
Stopping VPS ...
VPS was stopped
VPS is unmounted

not sure why this is happening... can anyone help?

To find it out, check the output of /sbin/ip route list to see if the route that vzctl is going to add for this VPS already exists.

Such situation may happen if you have stopped VPS from inside it (issuing /sbin/reboot or /sbin/poweroff or smth like this). In this case VPS-related route is deleted within 5 minutes after VPS stop.

Ahh, after running /sbin/route sbin/ip route list I noticed the route for the IP address I was trying to use for the VPS already existed. I simply removed that route, and now the VPS is working great!
