Hi all,

unfortunateley I had to reinstall my HW Node and had to change from a 32bit Debian Etch System to an AMD64 Etch.

System is up, and openvz ist running. However the old VE won't start anymore, which I believe results from changing the host to x86-84bit. "Unable to start init, probably incorrect template" - which does make sense to me.

However the FAQ (http://wiki.openvz.org/FAQ) says that you can run x86 VPS in 64bit HW Nodes and that migration is possible. Google didn't tell me how, so am asking if someone could point me to the right place where to find documentation how to migrate my VE.

Thx in advance
Maik

Hello,

Can you tell me, please, what OpenVZ kernel do you use?

Thanks

Sure, it's the latest AMD64 Testing Kernel from debian.systs.org:

Debian Etch 4.0 System,
2.6.18-028test015.1+40-ovz-smp #1 SMP Wed Feb 14 17:36:15 CET 2007 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Kind Regards
Maik

Actually it should work and it's checked by our tests...

Hmm... Can you give us an access to the node in question?

Thanks

Unfortunately this is not possible. Is there any way to debug this and/or tell vzctl to be more verbose, since "--verbose" did not turn out anything of interest?

Kind Regards
Maik

OK, let's try to investigate it remotely.

There should be a config file for the kernel you're using in /boot directory. Can you, please attach it here.

Also, please, try to run init process of x86 VE manually from VE0:

# /vz/private/103/sbin/init

What does it output?

Thanks

It seems that file permissions got screwed up totally, when backing up the old server via ncftp. Execute bits are totally missing on all files that should be executable.

Sorry for the noise ;(

Kind Regards
Maik
