Hi, I've compiled openvz kernel and booted it
(no openvz configurations made ,just an openvz patched kernel)
Now the problem is that the network card is half functioning
I see that hosts on the lan see the packets transmitted
by ty the NIC , but the NIC (or Tthe OS) itself does not recieve any packets.
I've played with kernel configuration by disabling/changing
the (openvz ,NIC drivers,DMA engines) kernel configuration to no avail.

It's a gentoo system with linux-2.6.18-openvz-028.010
NIC :Intel Corporation PRO/1000 EB Network Connection with I/O Acceleration

Any ideas?

Hello,

Have you used .config file from openvz.org while compiling kernel?
If no, please attach you .config. The second question, does your NIC work normally on 2.6.18 vanilla kernel?

Thanks,
Vasily.

Hi Vasily,
I've used my own config, it's attached.
The NIC works ok with all other kernel including 2.6.18
The box has Intel E5100 server chipset.

OpenVZ kernels of 028test series use the same drivers, that are in 2.6.18 vanilla, so it's much more likely not kernel problem, but something wrong in configuration...

Can you explain, please, how do you observe this "half functioning" by examples of real commands and their output.

Also, please, provide `lspci` and `lspci -n` output.

Thank you!

Hi, What i mean by half functioning is if i UP the eth device
with static ip, then i ping other hosts on the LAN, the hosts
see the packets from openvz and send back replies, but the openvz system does not see their replies. The same then starting eth with dhcp, the dhcp server sends back dhcp offer , but openvz
system does not see these packets.

Below is lspci output you asked, but it is not from openvz booted kernel.

is firewall off?
do you use SELinux or alike?
On what stage OpenVZ system does not see back packets?
I mean, for example, does tcpdump show incoming packets?

No firewall or any other security system enabled.
I've checked with tcpdump originaly, amd it does not see the incoming packets, while other LAN hosts see the outgoing packets
from the openvz system and send back replies.

Thanks

hmmm... maybe the problem somehow is related to "I/O Acceleration"? is it possible to turn it off?

suggestions:
1. check mainstream 2.6.18 kernel with gentoo config.
2. check mainstream 2.6.18 kernel with openvz config.
3. if both (1) and (2) doesn't work - discard sysctl.conf changes for OpenVZ.
4. if (1) works, but (2) doesn't - problem in config.
5. if (1) works and (2) works - problem in OVZ patches.?
